In order to do something different each week of the year, I have a list of challenges to undertake...

Week 15 - Clean the Windows

This is one of the Challenges that I use to think of other things to add on the Challenge list - amazing what you can think of when 'cleaning the windows' is the alternative.

However, if life is like a box of chocolates, you can't always avoid that hard toffee one that breaks your teeth, so this morning I manned up, put on the waterproof apron and marigolds, and got the steps, bucket, sponge, cloth and squeegy out.

It took bloody ages to do both inside and out - I certainly had ample time to contemplate the astonishing number of windows there appear to be in but a modest end terrace (that's 10, including two Velux, plus a couple of glass doors, and the window over the top of the front door).

The weather was kind, though, the rain holding off until just after I'd finished, and the real bonus is that this time, I managed not to tip the bucket of water off the top of the steps all down my front, whilst in the front garden...

A Challenge well and truly done!

  1. Blimey, does this mean Hazel perched up ladders or are you clever and manage to clean the outside by leaning through an open window?

    1. The only one which defeated me was at the front. Even I considered that dangling out the window (with a foot hooked around the bedstead to stop me taking a header via the bay onto the chippings) a tad dangerous.

I've asked the next-doors to lend me their window cleaner when he next calls to do theirs.

  2. Susan Smith has left a new comment on your post "Week 15 - Clean the Windows":

Very good, but just think about ours. They go all the way to the floor in each room except kitchen, laundry, bathroom and en-suite. The large ones total 6 and 3 in my studio, so we don't do them often. Thought most people in the UK got in window cleaners?

    1. I've no idea why your comment didn't publish, Susan - apologies for that.

It always feels a bit decadent to get a window cleaner in when I can do them myself (except that one at the front that I told Bilbo about) - and anyway, I've still got to do the insides myself.

Think I might change my mind if I had all of yours to do though, and get a window cleaner in!
