In order to do something different each week of the year, I have a list of challenges to undertake...

Week 18 - Swim in the Sea

Living smack bang right in the middle of England, I don't get to visit the seaside very often. If I want to go to the nearest beach, it's a toss-up between Western-super-Mare to the southwest, Prestatyn to the northwest or Hunstanton to the east - all a good couple of hours drive away.

Mind you, even if I was closer to the sea, I'm not sure how tempted I would be to dip more than a toe into the water - memories of our family holidays in the north of Scotland and the compulsory annual swim (a sort of ordeal-by-sibling) in the North Sea at Primrose Bay has put me off a bit.

More recent holidays abroad in warmer climes have therefore been somewhat of a revelation, and as a fairly confident swimmer, there is nothing that I like better than bobbin' about in the briny - provided that it is off a sandy beach, under hot blue skies, sheltered from too much breeze and with other swimmers not too far away.

And such an opportunity presented itself to me last week, and I enjoyed a great deal of splashing around here:

Bliss!

So, apologies for the delay, but here is my week 18 Challenge - done!

  1. Maybe a holiday to Oz would have you dipping a little more. Not so cold over here in the summer.

    1. That would be fab - just such a long way away!

Have you read the Bill Bryson's book 'Down Under'? I found it both informative and entertaining - and it made me want to visit!

    2. No, I've not read it, but I think Hubby may have. We were near the water yesterday with daughter and family, and son-in=law put his toes in said, "OH, that's cold", but it is autumn now.

    3. The Bill Bryson is well worth a read, in my view, if you can get hold of it, Sue.

Bet the sea is lovely in the Summer though!

  2. Not as confident in water as you but remember some lovely swims in a little cove somewhere in Menorca (over 30 years ago when it was a very quiet and almost unknown destination).

Glad you had a good holiday, some of that warmth would not go amiss here right now.

    1. Your wish is my command - it's been really warm here today, the warmest of the year so far, I would think. Hope you had your fair share too.

  3. My first instict was "That's cheating!". But let's face it, when was I last in the sea in this country?! Your swim sounds wonderful!

    1. I think that you'll find that swimming in the sea comes safely under the Challenge remit of 'do something different' - and if I chose to take advantage of the circumstance I was in rather then - e.g. - wading into the Solent, then that makes sense to me! :-)
